RedGage Review - Initial Impressions Of Red Gage
By Bud Gallant
RedGage - Get Paid For Creating Backlinks To Your Site
I recently signed up with RedGage, after hearing some positive things about it on HubPages from other authors. I liked the idea of getting paid for backlinks! That's a pretty sweet deal. I've spent enough time there to provide a review with my initial impressions. If you've been wondering if RedGage is worth it, or if you've never heard of this fairly new site and are looking for more information, you'll enjoy this review. If you're a blogger or author here on HubPages who regularly promotes their posts, you'll be pleased to know that this site does indeed pay you to promote your work. That might sound pretty unbelievable, so let's take a look at how it works.
What Is RedGage?
RedGage is a social content sharing website that pays you. The pay structure on RedGage is similar to HubPages. You are paid by impressions. The actual rate does vary based on factors such as quality, site activity and number of friends in your network. When I started out, I was receiving $0.60 per 1000 as a new user. This rate can be raised by submitting quality work and sharing with lots of friends. You earn money by simply posting content and receiving views. You can share your photographs, your blog posts, videos and even links!
The content is not required to be unique, so feel free to upload things that you've posted elsewhere. It is a social site and it rewards participation. Making friends on the site is very easy, and people are pretty much always open to sending or accepting requests from anyone. The fact there is a economic incentive behind having a large friend network, makes it pretty easy to build up a giant friend list quickly.
How Do You Use RedGage?
Everything is done online. You signup for a free account, fill out some profile information (if you'd like), and you can start sharing content. Even if you do not yet have friends on the site, your content is still showcased to users and you begin making money instantly as your content gains views.
Unfortunately, I've found the site to be sometimes slow and buggy. Plus, the interface is not completely user-friendly. RedGage needs to make some improvements to increase usability. This is not to say that I found using the site overly difficult, however it was frustrating, at times, to perform simple tasks such as posting a reply to a wall message or even posting a link. On several occasions I received error messages and had to repeat the posting process for my links. Thankfully the system does save all the information for the link except the picture, so only that finally step had to be redone.
Someone who can easily navigate and use Facebook or HubPages probably won't have too much difficulty getting around RedGage. The less experienced you are with websites, in general, the more likely you will be confused about simple tasks such as replying to messages or creating your profile. In fact, these should be simple tasks, but they are over-complicated by the site's layout.
Some Annoying Bugs And Problems I've Encountered On RedGage
- having to regularly click the "login" button twice when signing in
- replies to wall messages not sending
- pages sometimes taking 3-4 seconds to load
- message format very unpolished and confusing
The Good News
- simple sign-up
- very easy to find a lot of friends
- revenue sharing
- content displayed in a visually appealing manner
Does RedGage Pay?
Yes, RedGage really does pay. You can receive a $25 Visa card once you reach $25 in your account. I posted 20 links to my hubs because I wanted to see the results. I was pleasantly surprised. Within minutes, my account had made 7 cents. Now that might not seem like it'd be worth the time, but there's not many sites that will actually pay you for posting links! A few days later my account was up to 10 cents, and those links are still earning me money. In addition, I've received an extra 250 views so far to my hubs through RedGage.
Who Should Use RedGage?
If you're using Facebook, Twitter or Ping.fm to promote your articles, you should definitely consider promoting through RedGage as well. Not only will you receive backlinks and traffic, you'll also receive money, and who doesn't like free money? Of course the money isn't completely free, because you're paying for it with time, but since promoting your work is such an essential part of it's success, this is a very nice way to help offset some of the costs of that promotion.
Additionally if you just enjoy sharing things with other people and are looking for a very social platform where you can upload some pictures, videos, written content, or links, this site would be a great fit for you. It has a friendly and very large (and growing) community. It's actually a lot of fun to upload things and watch how they perform.
Can I Make A Lot Of Money With RedGage?
Yes, you definitely could. Like anything else, it all depends on how much time and effort you put into it. An interesting feature of RedGage it that it displays how much users have earned on their profiles. I did see several that were $200 just with a cursory glance, include a few that were over $500.
It seems that photographs are the highest paying, on average, of the various content types you're able to post. If you are an amateur photographer or happen to have a large photo collection on your computer or DVD, you could definitely make some money by uploading those. I'd recommend focusing on high quality, unique photographs. I noticed some people just uploading other people's photos from Google Images and these didn't seem to be making money. The higher amounts I saw were accounts of photographers who built a following around their work.
You can certainly make money on RedGage other ways. Personally, I think for most people the money will be more of a side-effect to promoting their links, articles or photos, but there's always a possibility that something becomes very popular and pays out well.
RedGage isn't likely to make you a lot of money overnight. The great thing about it is that it will keep paying you overtime. So, even if that picture of you at the beach running from a jellyfish isn't the next viral internet sensation, it's still likely to bring in some change over the long-term.
If your goal is to make a lot of money with RedGage, I'd recommend taking high quality pictures of everything interesting you can, and building up a large friend network to share them with. This is probably a great way for someone interested in putting their photography skills to the test, or those who have experience taking photos.
Additional Ways To Earn On RedGage
There is a Daily Draw for a $25 visa card available in the form of a raffle. There's one lucky winner selected each day. After only two weeks on this site, I was fortunate enough to win a draw and receive $25, so it's definitely possible to win this, and that is a great incentive to join!
You can also make money on RedGage's by having quality content selected by a moderator to be featured on the site. In addition to increased exposure, bringing increased traffic, you will receive a special bonus in the form of additional money. I read an account of someone receiving a $5 bonus for a photo, although the average seems to be around $1-$2 for most content, from what I've been able to gather.
There is a referral system with RedGage, but the details are pretty unclear. I've heard a few different explanations of how it works, but haven't seen anything official regarding it. I've contacted RedGage and will update this hub once I receive a response.
Why Not Give RedGage A Try?
It's likely that RedGage will be a bit more polished as updates are made, but there's no reason to let some minor flaws stop you from posting on it and earning money. Who knows what gems you have buried on your hard drive that might make you some cash? At the very least, it's a great way to build a large friend network and promote your hubs or blogs. Why not get traffic, backlinks and money for taking a few seconds to share your work?
If you'd like to try RedGage for yourself, you can use my referral link. It will allow us to be friends right away, and I'll be just a message away to help.
What Do You Think?
Have you tried RedGage yet? If so, what have your results been?
Do you believe that RedGage is part of a growing trend on the internet to pay users for their content instead of just offering to host it for free?
What is your favorite thing about RedGage?
Do you run RedGage like a business or are you just using it to have fun and share your work?

This looks the place for the hundreds of transparencies that still sit in my Kodak reels. Soon as I get time to learn how to convert to digital, Bud, I will be back to take advantage of your referral link. Thanks much.
I had an account on Redgage a while back and my CPM rate was $0.6 as yours. I had heard somewhere that the rate increases as we refer others, but its not increasing although I have 5 referrals. And those referrals have brought nothing except free promotion and lead to them.
What I like about RedGage is that its posts rank high in search engines. I was surprised to see one of my link rank high than the article in the first page itself. It is cool as it increases views in the Redgage (and more money) and eventually comes to the hub anyway.
I didn't know about the photographs and pictures yet, so I might have to upload more of them. Thanks!
you are definitely right about the buggyness. i signed up quite a bit ago and got in a couple of times, but havent been able to get back in lately.
i am going to check my firewall to see if security is the issue.
thanks for providing some great information about RedGage and how it works. when i first received an invite i had never heard of the site.
great hub
I know several people who have redgage accounts, Bud. I guess I may have to check it out, too. :) Nice job with the info and organization. Rated up.
I'm now surprised that one of my links to hubpages got featured and received bonus of $1.20.
I signed in my account just after posting my comment and I was surprised to see the bonus. Seems like RedGage really has extra to pay for.
another great hub - I love RedGage although as you say the bugs can get annoying.
RTalloni, Thank you for the comment and appreciation. It means a lot to me.
SubRon7, That's a great idea. I forgot you had those, but it seems like it would be a great fit for you. Thanks!
Suramya, I know what you mean. Information on the referral program is very unclear. I read that it gives points for the "daily raffle" only, but even that was not from an official source. I'll see if I cna turn up more. That's a good point about the search engine rankings. Glad to hear you were selected for a bonus! That's a possibility I forgot to mention. I should add that in.
smcopywrite, Thanks for the feedback! I'm not sure what would be preventing you from getting back into the site. There's definitely some changes that could be made to improve user experience with RedGage.
Denise, It seems pretty good for backlinks, anyway. I haven't really put a lot of energy into it myself, but I am always looking for ways to promote my hubs! Thanks!
Annie, Yes, that my thought exactly. :) Thanks!
I am all for Redgage. I have been on the site for a month, got featured twice with photo and video getting an average of $4 each. I think it is a great portal to post photographs.Think about it, if you have 500 photographs sitting on your hard drive, they are earning nothing, but if you post them on Redgage, they start earning you money,I have a lot of digital photographs and have earned $17 in a month. Thanks for the review Bud
Yeah I think RedGage is great. Im not even done backlinking my content and have made over 3 dollars. Two of my uploads have been featured as well. Its a great site that is definitly worth your time.
I haven't done very well at making money on RedGage so don't bother so much with the site but have taken on board you advice about photos and will give that a go. Voted up and tagged useful!
Alladream, Sounds like it's been working out nicely for you. That is a great point about the photographs. I think does seem like a perfect place to share your photos. I've had an interest in photography for several years, but never really produced much with it, so I'm considering giving that a try. $17 a month is a very good accomplishment for pictures you already had sitting on your drive. Thanks for the comment!
CWanamaker, Awesome! I love making money for backlinks. I still have to add some content myself. I'll probably do that later today. Thanks!
Bard of Ely, It definitely seems that photos is where the money is at on there. Thanks! Let us know how it works out for you.
I have posted some on there this afternoon! Got a couple of comments already!
Bard of Ely, Great! That's a good sign, for sure.
Thank you for the useful information. I had heard of RedGage but I don't know much about it. It sounds good. I will check it out.
I have earned hundreds of dollars on redgage, and have been paid most of what I earned, so it does pay, and well if you know how to apply your links. That said, redgage does not always pay, as I discovered the hard way. In the past year, not one, not two, but three of my earnings updates vanished. Redgage told me it was due to a glitz on their part, and not to worry, I would be paid in full all money owed me. Nearly nione months have passed, and still I have not been paid for three months work. And if you think this is unique to the site, it isn't. Many others are also posting and complaining they also have had months worth of earnings not get posted to their accounts.
Now if you one of the many lucky one's who are getting paid and not missing any earnings, you will continue to swear by the site, but more and more members are learning the hard way, redgage does not always pay.
Is the site buggy, yes. But in my opinion, the site suffers from a lack of funds, because a software glitz does not take nine months to address.
I just started on Redgage a couple of days ago. scammedagain's post made me a little squeamish.
Thanks for the review. I'm about to pull the trigger on this. Do you have any updates you can share since this was written? Also, does RedGage link to your Hubs or repost them, and if they are reposted, does that count as duplicate content?
Voted Up and useful : ) The bugs are definitely true. I signed up nearly a week ago and had to ask for the code to verify my e-mail. I've still not been able to upload my blogger or wordpress accounts. I'm beginning to get an eerie feeling since they have the password to my Twitter and Facebook accounts. Other Hubbers have had great success. I hope they get the bugs worked out.
Morning Bud.
An iteresting hub you have here.
I've been on RG for three months and have 300+ friends but only 87 uploads of photo's, video's and links. The reason that I have so few uploads is that it seems I am blocked in some way. For example on the dashboard page and on the right hand side you see "Getting Started" and under a small box with five options for you ie.
Getting Started:
1. Find and invite your friends.
2. Import your content.
3. Broadcast your work.
4. Personalize your profile.
5. Upload some content.
Although it doesn't show it here numbers 2, 4, and 5 have a red line right through them. Number 5 being the main option of uploading my content. This I can't do and have asked RG for help on the matter twice with out a reply.
If you have any idea's as to the problem and how to fix it I would appreciate them very much. If I can't work on the site there's no point in me being on it.
Thanks for any help.
